SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Home Builders and Remodelers of Central New York (HBR) will carry a 35-foot-tall helium balloon of Bob the Builder in the St. Patrick's Day Parade this Saturday.
This will be the first time the company has carried a balloon at the parade. For some HBR staffers, this will be rare opportunity to attend the parade at all.
HBR executive director Mary Thompson said the annual Home & Garden Show and St. Patrick's Day Parade typically fall on the same weekend, making it impossible to have a presence at both.
This year, though, the dates lined up in their favor. The parade will take place on March 14 and the show takes place from March 19-22.
"We're really we're excited to celebrate both this year and we thought Bob the Builder was a perfect fit," said Thompson.
Bob the Builder will be inflated on The Post-Standard's plaza on the morning of the parade. It is the only helium balloon in the parade this year and will enter the parade between 1:15-1:40 p.m.
"My son's birthday is also on St. Patrick's Day and I'm Irish, so I'm just so glad we're doing something for the community to celebrate," Thompson said.
There will also be a Bob the Builder roaming character at the Home & Garden Show.
"He won't be 35 feet tall but he'll be there," Thompson said.
Cazenovia Equipment Company lent construction equipment to HBR for the Home & Garden Show, so kids can have their pictures taken with Bob the Builder, "Gripper" and "Scratch." (Gripper is a crane and Scratch is a small digger.)
The St. Patrick's Day Parade takes place at noon in Clinton Square on Saturday. Last year, Syracuse Media Group carried a giant Kermit the Frog in the parade.
